I recently started a new website or really a Wordpress blog about WordPress. Called WordPress Max "WordPress Guides For The Geek Impaired". As some of you may have recognized I haven't been posting here on a regular basis as I have been busy with the new blog.
While I will keep learning and blogging about WordPress this blog has veered of the work at home subject it was first started for.
So I encourage you to drop by WordPress Max and have a look around. There isn't much there yet but that will change soon enough. If you want to keep up to date on WordPress stop by, grab the feed or look for the email update option on the sidebar.

If you are blogging with a Wordpress blog, or any blog for that matter, and looking for an opportunity to build some incoming links to it then this is something that should interest you.
I got several emails about the Reciprocal Review Carousel today and just had to participate.
Check it out, Reciprocal Review Carousel is a different kind of web 2.0 link building technique started by Alex over at HowtoSpoter.com. This is a great chance to get incoming links if you do it right.
Follow the directions below and make sure you do it right. Check out how this started (opens in a new window) then come back here and see what has changed on the review list below and you will see how this works immediately.
— Copy and paste the Reciprocal Review Carousel and instructions below this line. —
Reciprocal Review Carousel idea is based on a few simple yet effective link-building and blogging techniques I have learned:
Build value of the blog by creating a helpful link from within content.
Provide value to community by doing a review on a blog you personally like.
Link to YOUR blog has exact anchor text you want and helps you boost Google Rankings.
No more than 30 outbound links from any page to prevent penalties for link farming.
Viral effect of the link – as more bloggers participate, link to your blog with YOUR anchor text, coming from quality content post will spread.
Here is How to participate:
- Copy the entire text between the specified lines.
- Create a post on your site and put at least one paragraph explaining how you joined the Reciprocal Review Carousel.
- Paste the text you copied into your post.
- Remove the Bottom Review and At the Top add your own review with a link to a site reviewed, at least 2 sentences about the site and a note – Reviewed by: Your Anchor Text. Link your anchor text to your site. Here is an example:

Installing WordPress and making posts isn't all that difficult, what takes time is learning what plugins to use and how to use WordPress for optimal results and traffic generation.
WordPress plugins are used to extend the functionality of a Wordpress blog. If there is something you want WordPress to do, chances are there is a plugin for it. Most plugins are free to download and use. An extensive list of plugins can be found at:
The difference between an installed plugin and an activated plugin is that an installed plugin has only been uploaded to your blog directory on your websites hosting account. It is installed and available for use but needs to be activated before it can be used or provide its functionality. Below is a list of all the WordPress plugins that I personally install and activate on all new blogs I setup for my Blog Builder Service.
I will also configure as many of these as I possibly can as part of the service. Some of the plugins will need a more personal touch by the individual blogger themselves. In this case I will personally help you with the final touches.
If I setup your blog most of these will already be configured and you will also have a few more optional plugins installed but not activated.
- Adsense-Deluxe - Place Google AdSense ads in your WordPress posts.
- Adsense-Deluxe+ Widget - Place Google AdSense ads as a widget. Requires AdSense-Deluxe Plugin. I don't use this, as you can see all my AdSense is within the post.
- Akismet - Akismet is one of the default plugins, it checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use it. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments.”
- All in One SEO Pack - Out-of-the-box SEO for your Wordpress blog.
- FeedBurner Feed Replacement - Forwards all feed traffic to FeedBurner while letting through some important User-Agents.
- Google (XML) Sitemaps - This generator will create a sitemaps.org compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog, which are supported By Google, MSN Search and YAHOO.
- Gregarious - The ultimate social bookmarking plugin.
- MyBlogLog Widget - Adds MyBlogLog widget to your blog.
- Smart Update Pinger - Replaces the built-in ping/notify functionality. Pings only when publishing new posts, not when editing.
- Social Bookmarks - Social Bookmarks adds a list of XHTML compliant graphic links at the end of your posts that allow your visitors to easily submit them to a number of social bookmarking sites.
- Subscribe To Comments - Allows readers to receive notifications of new comments that are posted to an entry.
- Tagalize It - Create tagged text by enclosing the text to be tagged in one of the following. [TAG-Tec] [Tag-Ice] and [Tag-self].
- Ultimate Tag Warrior - Ultimate Tag Warrior is a tagging plugin, that’s heavy on tag visualization.
- What Would Seth Godin Do - Displays a custom welcome message to new visitors.
- WordPress.com Stats - Tracks views, post/page views, referrers, and clicks. Requires a WordPress.com API key.
- WordPress Database Backup - On-demand backup of your WordPress database.
Well not all of these are for SEO and Web 2.0 but still useful.
If You have a better list or want to add to it feel free to leave a comment below.
A typical Wordpress blog is setup to show the latest post on the top of the main or front page, with the specified amount of previous posts shown below that, known as the 'Loop'. Writing a post will place it within the Loop, a page will not be placed in the Loop.
Now to really confuse you; every post or page you create is actually another content page added to your website. You may hear or read the term Post page online and throughout this ebook. A Post page is the URL of the individual post within the Loop. Clicking on the title of a post from the main or front blog site will open that post in its own single Post page. So every post has its own Post page, and every page has its own Page page. Clear as mud right?
When to use a page instead of a post? Well that is up to you the blogger but a good example of a page is the default About page that is included with all WordPress installs. Perhaps you have one main specific product or service you are promoting. You could create a page for that specific product, and use it for front page.

If you choose to use a static page for the front page you should create a new page for the regular blog Loop. Before choosing the static page option, create a new blank page titled Blog. Don't bother putting anything in the content post box as shown below, click Publish.

Back at Options, Reading subpanel, tick the A static page option; choose the front page and the page that will show the regular blog loop containing your latest posts. Shown below.

There is one word of caution about some Wordpress blog themes and choosing the static front-page option. Not all WordPress themes will show the sidebar on pages or the single post page. So the link to the Blog page we created above to get your visitors from a static front page to your regular blog Loop will not be visible. You will either need to place a link to it on the static front page, choose a theme that shows the sidebar on pages or add the sidebar to the themes page template.
Adding the sidebar to the page template is not that hard. If I setup your blog for you and you need this done please contact me and I can do it for you. You can also find plenty of instructions online how to do it including here:

There seems to be a bit of confusion with one of my instructional posts: Get A WordPress API Key For The Akismet WordPress Plugin. Several people are telling me that they can't find their Wordpress blog API key using my directions in that post so lets try again.
In order to get a WordPress API key you first need an account at WordPress.com. If you have, or had a free WordPress blog hosted on WordPress.com, chances are you already have an API key.
First go to WordPress.com. and click 'Sign Up' in the top right side of the site as shown below. Please note that the login information for WordPress.com is completly different than that to login to your self-hosted WordPress blog!!!

After you sign up at WordPress.com you will need to go through the normal email confirmation routine and get your password sent to you. Once you have your username and password go back to WordPress.com and login.
After you login you will see a screen similar to this, without my picture in it I hope

Place your mouse over 'My Account' on the top left. A drop down menu should appear, from that click 'Global Dashboard'.

Now you should be in the WordPress Global Dashboard. Once in here click 'Profile' as shown below.

Here, at last you should find the elusive WordPress API key!

Now you can use the API key for all your Wordpress blogs and some of the plugins that need it to function.
Important! Your login information for the WordPress Global Dashboard is completely different than your self-hosted blog. If you click Blog Stats from within your blog you may be prompted to login to the Global Dashboard. This can be confusing because both login screens look identical. Remember that your blog is hosted on your website, not on WordPress.com.
Only your blog stats are accessed on WordPress.com and clicking Blog Stats from within your self-hosted blog actually takes you from your site to WordPress.com.
This has caused many new self-hosted WordPress bloggers to think they have forgotten their passwords, when they were actually using the wrong information to login.
Please pay close attention to where you are and use the correct login information for the specific dashboard you are accessing. If you can't login, chances are you are using the wrong information for the site you are on. The only reason you really need to login to the Global dashboard is to check your blog stats. If you check the remember me box when first logging into the Global dashboard you will most-likely never be prompted for it again.

By Carl Hendricks,
If writing is an art, then, blogging is one way of using words to come up with an art. This is because people who are into blogging are the ones who are artistic on their own sense, carefully choosing words that would best describe their feelings, sentiments, wishes, desires, and everything.
Basically, blogs were first introduced as weblogs that refer to a “server’s log file.” It was created when web logging hit the virtual market. Since its inception in the mid-1990s, web logging gradually saturated the virtual community making the Internet a viable source of greater information.
However, with web logging, you still need a web site and domain names, but with blogging, you do not need anything just an account with blog providers. In most cases, these kinds of blogs are free of charge.
With the onset of blogging in the industry, personal journaling had been a common ground for people who wish to be known all over the world. However, not literally famous as this is not a case on being popular or well-known personality.
Generally, blogs are created for personal use. Like a journal, people can write their daily adventures, sentiments, and whatever ideas they want to express online.
Nevertheless, with the advent of the online businesses, blogs had gradually taken the limelight in providing businesses a chance to boost their productivity online. This is where the business blogs have taken the limelight.

Getting traffic to any site is the goal of all webmasters, repeat website traffic is the key in gaining the trust and loyalty of your visitors.
With the use of several WordPress plugins, a Wordpress blog can be optimized to gain that repeat traffic. Several tools can automatically notify your readers of a new post, of course you need to supply the content to keep your visitors wanting to come back.
There is a plugin that encourage first time visitors to subscribe to your blog feed with a subtle, unobtrusive pop-up box, and another that automatically subscribes someone who comments on a post. With the subscribe to comments plugin, anyone making a comment will be notified of other comments made on that post. Of course you need to encourage this interaction on your blog. When writing a post ask questions of the readers, say something controversial, do anything to encourage them to post a comment.
Another underutilized tool is setting up your blog feed in your autoresponder. This will notify your list of all new posts made on your blog. You can even set up a new autoresponder specifically for your blog and place an opt-in somewhere on your Wordpress blog
There are several ways to get repeat website traffic and WordPress makes it so much easier. Above are a few of the methods I use. What are some of the methods you use to get repeat website traffic?

Just yesterday I posted about comment spam on my Wordpress blog and about one specific program that automates the comment spam process.
The title of the post is Trackback Submitter Spammer Waste Of Money, if you Google just Trackback Submitter you will see that post is #6 or #5 on Google today, 6/19/07. So in one day a blog post is topping Google.
I pretty much blasted the program for "Spraying Internet graffiti on my website" but thats not the point here. The point is how quickly a blog post can rank in Google with a properly configured blog.
This blog is powered by WordPress and has several WordPress plugins working behind the scene generating traffic and optimizing the post's pages for the search engines.
If you are reading this on the main blog site click the title of the post and open it in it's own page, go ahead I'll wait...
Now look at the very top left of your browser you will see the title of the post before the title of the blog. This helps the search engines find the keywords quicker.
Next look at the URL: http://www.esmartjob.com/blog/wordpress-blog/post-tops-google
the last two: /wordpress-blog/post-tops-google also include relevant keywords utilizing a custom Permalink structure. Read more about that here: Customize WordPress Permalink Structure
Another plugin automatically pings a list of services and sites of my choosing as soon as a post is published. While another WordPress plugin updates the blogs sitemap and notifies Google and Yahoo! that new content is ready to be crawled.
If I setup your WordPress blog for you all these WordPress plugins and options are already at work for you. Posting good relevant content consistently, will bring more traffic so keep at it.
If you want more information or have any questions about the plugins or options discussed in this post please submit them in the comments section below.

I have seen a few comments in my Wordpress blogs Akismet spam subpanel. They are coming from a site called Trackback submitter.
Trackback submitter is a spamming software tool used to automatically post comments on blogs to generate backlinks. The WordPress plugin Akismet filter caught all of these spam comments with no problem. So if you think this is a shortcut to getting links to your website forget it, it's a waste of time and money.
From the looks of the comment:
This is exactly what I expected to find out after reading the title ss Blog Can Generate Website Traffic | Work At Home Business Blog. Thanks for informative article
The software tries to use the title of the post to make it look like a real comment. As you see in the above spam it didn't get the title of my blog post correct with the ss in front of Blog.
The Trackback submitter spam is coming from a spammer named Eric, his email address is eric25@yahoo.com. The URL is submit-trackback.com, IP address 64.22.110.34.
If you don't have a spam filter on your Wordpress blog you can blacklist this or any other comment spammer by clicking on Options, Discussion and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Paste the URL of the spmmer in the Comment Blacklist, and click Update Options.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not against automation when it comes to making money, hell I even contemplated placing an affiliate link to the software in this post!
I just don't want some lazy, ignorant idiot spraying his Internet graffiti on my website!
